How to Check Your Kikashinsei (Naturalization) Result Online

Open the Internet Kanpō Portal
- Visit the official National Printing Bureau site at kanpo.go.jp.
- The website allows free browsing of issues published within the past 90 days.
- New issues are published every government working day (Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays) at 8:30 AM JST.
Select the Date and Issue Type
- Select the publication date you wish to inspect.
- Naturalization notices are published under the regular edition: 本紙 (Honshi). Do not check 号外 (Gōgai / Extra) unless directe

Naturalization entries are organized in a table format containing:
住所 (Address): Your registered residential address at the time of application.
氏名 (Name): Listed as your pre-naturalization legal name (non-kanji names appear in Katakana separated by middle dots ・; Chinese/Korean kanji names appear in standardized shinjitai characters).
生年月日 (Date of Birth): Your birth date.
Tip: Because the text layout in Kanpō PDFs runs in specialized vertical or horizontal columns, standard browser text search (Ctrl + F / Cmd + F) can occasionally fail to detect names. Manually scroll and check the list for your address and date of birth.

Important Notes
Only approvals are published: If an application is denied (fukyoka) or withdrawn, it is never printed in the Kanpō. Rejections are communicated directly and privately by your Legal Affairs Bureau (Hōmukyoku) caseworker.
Notification from the Legal Affairs Bureau: Seeing your name means you are officially a Japanese citizen as of that date. However, you still need to wait for a phone call or written notice from your caseworker (usually within 1–2 weeks) to schedule a final visit to receive your Certificate of Naturalization (Kikasha no Mibun Shōmeisho).
30-day deadline: You must submit your Naturalization Notification (帰化届, Kikatodoke) to your local municipal office within 1 month from the date your notice is published in the Kanpō.
